Position: Health and Hygiene Promoter

Terre des hommes Foundation Italy (Tdh-It) is an international NGO registered with the NGO Affairs bureau in Bangladesh in 2000. It has been offering financial and technical backing to Bangladeshi NGOs since 1996. Our projects are mainly focused on educational support to disadvantaged children and adolescent, disaster preparedness, emergency and post –emergency activities in the rural as well as in the urban areas. Tdh-It in Bangladesh is both EC co-financed and self financed. For the project “Interventions of reconstruction of cyclone shelter and rehabilitation of sanitation facilities for the population affected by cyclone Sidr in Pathuakhali district”, Tdh-It invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Health and Hygiene Promoter. This project is funded by Italian Cooperation.

Job Description / Responsibility / Tasks

  • Develop training modules addressing different issues related with health (esp. reproductive health, maternal health) & hygiene for women, adolescent girls and communities of disaster prone area.
  • Develop awareness raising materials to mitigate health & hygiene risks for the targeted area.
  • Develop training program / schedule based on the identified needs.
  • Facilitate trainings, meetings, campaigns on public health & hygiene risks and needs within the target population.
  • Organize awareness raising activities within the project targeted area.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a way that is sensitive to community needs and promotes the full and equal participation of women.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to the Project Manager/ & Coordinator on hygiene issues and training program progress against work plan and program activities.
  • Liaise directly with communities, elders and local authorities on health & hygiene issues, as well as other agencies regularly to ensure coordination and effective implementation of activities

Educational Requirements: Master Degree in any subject of social sciences, degree in public health will be an asset.

Experience Requirements

  • At least five years experience in the field of health and hygiene promotion for women and adolescent including other public health issues.
  • Incumbent should have demonstrable working knowledge on reproductive health, maternal health related issues.
  • Experience on training planning, module / curriculum development.
  • Experience in training documentation, preservation for further use and dissemination.
  • Experience in training evaluation, documentation, reporting and dissemination.
  • Experience in awareness raising materials and tools development and collection to make it effective.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Strong health & hygiene promotion experience essential.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with emergency risk reduction and preparedness.
  • Excellent facilitation skills are required.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Bangla.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, power point, etc.

Salary: BDT 25,000 to 28,000/- (Consolidated per month)
