Bangladesh-UK Exchange

Global Xchange (GX) will run a programme between Bangladesh and the UK from September 2008 to February 2009. This is a six-month exchange programme run by Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and the British Council in cooperation with partner organisations (1) Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) and (2) Nagorik Uddyog . GX gives young people a unique opportunity to work together to develop and share valuable skills, and make practical contributions where it is needed. GX aims to support the development of active global citizens committed to work for positive social changes.

The programme will work with a maximum of 18 young people, nine each from Bangladesh and the UK . The participants are recruited and teams are formed to reflect diversity in terms of geography, ethnicity, disability and gender. The minimum educational qualification of the candidates should be Higher Secondary or equivalent. Volunteers will live in host communities for three months in the UK and three months in Bangladesh . Global Xchange is designed as a reciprocal volunteering programme, involving cross cultural partnerships in every aspect of our work. Each cross-cultural team of volunteers is supported by two Programme Supervisors, one from Bangladesh and one from the UK .

The Country Management Team (CMT) of Bangladesh-UK Exchange is now receiving applications from young and interested persons to work as Volunteers. The applicant should be between 18 and 27 years of age group, committed and prepared not to see/ visit their family, friends and next of kin for a period of 6 months; open-minded, non-judgmental and respectful to other people and cultures; and adaptable to the relevant local customs of the host community. The project will cover all relevant costs i.e. accommodation, food, local travel costs and training for both the phases in Bangladesh and the UK .
